Particulate Matter and Trace Metal Retention Capacities of Six Tree Species: Implications for Improving Urban Air Quality

چکیده
As effective filters for natural particulate matter (PM), plants play an important role in the reduction of PM, thus improving air quality. However, research on relationship between leaf functional traits and PM retention capacity different polluted environments remains limited. In this study, six tree species (Abies holophylla, Pinus tabuliformis, Juniperus chinensis, Populus berolinensis, Salix babylonica, Robinia pseudoacacia) Shenyang city, China were selected as objects to analyze their three (i.e., a busy road, industrial area urban center, green space). Additionally, we determined composition trace elements associated with environments; also evaluated impact surface traits. The results showed that actual amounts accumulated surfaces differed considerably pollution sites plant species. greatest accumulation PM10 PM2.5 deposited leaves tested was at traffic-related site smallest park site. There significant differences capacities among (p < 0.05), following order: Abies holophylla > tabuliformis chinensis berolinensis babylonica pseudoacacia. average 1.28–8.74 times higher than these other 0.05). Trace element analysis elemental location-dependent. conclusion, highly environment can increase groove width, stomatal density, roughness compared low-polluted environment. contrast, value contact angle is low-pollution sites. These suggest most suitable greening its widespread use could significantly reduce environments.

The present study deals with sequential extraction of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) bound trace metals in an industrial area of Firozabad, India. During the study period, daily PM2.5 concentration ranged between 73.49 μg/m3 and 113.26 μg/m3 with poor air quality index of 196.37. In the present study, Ca recorded the highest while Co had the lowest concentration among all analysed metals. Mn, ...

متن کاملCharacteristics and Sources of Fine Particulate Matter in Urban Air
Particulate matter is an important component of the air pollution mixture that has been linked to various adverse health outcomes as well as having general environmental effects. It is not yet clear which causative agents and underlying mechanisms are responsible for these adverse health effects. However, it is likely that the source of the particles, a factor which influences their characteris...

Vertical profiles of suspended particulate trace metals were measured in the Sargasso Sea near Bermuda and in the California Current, northwest Pacific. Using a new in situ pump, sufficiently large samples of particulate matter (order 10mg) were collected to allow measurement of a suite of trace metals as well as major component elements, using several different leaching techniques on separate ...
